Thanks for the thanksgiving wishes! We’re on our way to Audrey’s family in North Carolina this weekend and it’ll be Dagny’s first big trip. I’ll have Audrey follow up and let you know if there’s a category of things we’re short on. By the way, we're excited to be the latest in the family to be using the antique chifforobe for Dagny's things. Happy Thanksgiving to the whole Winchester family!

"...standing on the outskirts looking in..." makes me think as much about back then, physically standing on the outskirts as what we do now - standing on digital outskirts.

Our need to connect has never been stronger. Our ability to connect (regardless of the depth of that connection) has never been easier. And yet some of the methods we use to do so have made it more challenging due to social transparency and how our broadcasts can be interpreted. Interpreted by those they're meant for as well as those peering in at the very public conversations we all now have with each other.

Thinking about Sarah's remark - I'm thankful I only had to deal with the physical world growing up as these little being we have around us - a whole different world for them. At least I could get some confidence in who I was before tackling 21st century social life.

Thank you for your post and your candor and for reminding us that at some point we're all outside looking in.

Thank you for being honest. It happens a lot in childhood and a lot in adulthood. Except as adults it becomes "church friends" or "small group friends". I think Facebook and twitter make it worse as adults, because then you can see everyone talking about all of the events you werent invited too.

Great post Nate. Thanks for sharing and for the honesty. It's ironic that growing up we view those different than us (the popular crowd etc..) as ones that have what we are somewhat lacking...or somwe think we are. I hate that because of a lack of maturity at that stage in life we can't quite grasp the reality that we are all trying to find our strength...our meaning...our place. The band nerds...science geeks...transfer students...prom king and queen...and the mascot. Everyone is searching. Right now I can hear Elliot trying to fall asleep and I hate that this little precious being that is completely loved and accepted at this moment will at some point wonder if he's worth it...struggle with his strength...question his
place...I want to go to school with him and defend him to all the bullies (who are also in a battle of their own) and not let him ever feel that pit in your heart feeling you wrote about. But taking away struggle takes away growth. May we all thank the people that have challenged us to look inside...jocks included...because of that we are who we are today. Oh. And we are all grateful you were a "dork" (whatever that really means) bc you kick ass at what you do.

Good post. Thanks for sharing and kudos for being open and honest! I used to sit at at the lunch table and if I had taken a more popular kid's seat, the entire table would get up and leave leaving me sitting alone. I think back to those days and those kids that treated me "oh so kindly" and would I choose to spend my adulthood time with now? I'd rather sit with you, your lively wife and a select few others. It's a weird transition in adulthood how your friendships evolve as you go through different life experiences and you will see that even more once "Little Ragan" makes her appearance. Word.
